Roxy Jacenko’s Best Fashion Tips

Roxy Jacenko is an Australian businesswoman, media personality, style maven, mother-of-two and author, known for being at the helm of PR agency, Sweaty Betty PR. This week on the Two Girls And Nothing To Wear Pacific Fair Podcast, we chatted to Roxy who shared her top fashion tips on when to splurge and when to save. If you’ve ever wanted fashion tips from the fashion queen herself, then keep on reading:

Roxy’s advice on dressing…
There’s nothing worse than seeing a thirty-year-old wearing something a twenty-year-old should be wearing. So, I think you should dress for your age, for your industry and what you do. I’ve always been a shopper who sticks to a colour palette of black, navy & grey.

Roxy says to…
Invest in a great handbag and shoes. I’ve always invested in my wardrobe because I think the better you look and the better you feel, then the better you can sell yourself and your business.

Roxy’s three must-haves are…
A watch, denim shorts and a great shoe. If you’ve got a basic wardrobe of quality items, you can mix it up with a splurge item.

Roxy’s hot tip for job interviews…
Makeup and hair goes a very, very long way. I think when it comes to looking the part for a potential job, the better you present yourself, the better your chance. You can have all the credentials in the world, but if you don’t look the part and you don’t look like someone I could send to a client meeting, well, that’s a problem. You need to look polished, you need to wear makeup and you need to do your hair.

Roxy’s boardroom-to-dinner look is…
A leather pant, white t-shirt and a blazer with a nice shoe. That’s my uniform for winter and I’ll usually swap my shoes from a ballet flat during the day to a heel for dinner.

Roxy’s shopping tip…
Set your budget and make a list of what you actually need. You need to be able to maintain your day-to-day lifestyle, like paying rent. Shop in looks because there’s nothing worse than having a cupboard full of separates and nothing to wear.

Roxy’s shopping mantra…
I buy in outfits, not in separates. There’s no better way to shop than looking at the mannequin and seeing how the designer has styled the pieces. I don’t try to create my own style in a sense, I like to see what the designer does. Buying in looks means you go home and you have a full outfit to wear!

Roxy’s take on trend items…
Purchase key pieces from a trend that you can wear over again. I always take these pieces so I can wear them season-to-season. I’m in a fashion world, so if I don’t have a few key must-have fashion items, I’m kind of losing my touch.

Roxy’s go-to look…
Wearing a skinny leg jean cropped at the ankle with a basic white tee, heels & a bag. You’ve got the look right there and I don’t think you have to overcomplicate it. There’s plenty of options out there and you don’t have to splurge all the time.
