Get To Know Co-Host Yvette Hardy

Yvette Hardy is a Gold Coast fashion blogger and Marie Claire Style Set Contributing Stylist and co-host of our Pacific Fair Podcast. When she’s not leading the fashion pack, she’s spending time with her kids and husband. But, with great style comes great interest, and we couldn’t help but find out more about Yvette and her passion for fashion:

I first fell in love with fashion when…
I didn’t fall in love with fashion until my 30’s. I just had my first baby and I got stuck in a rut. I was wearing the same clothes for days on end without realising. I thought, I really need to do something to make an effort in the morning, like put makeup on and a nice outfit on. So, when I was up in the middle of the night, I would jump on the internet and trawl through the latest trends, and, I fell in love with fashion then. It’s a way of expressing yourself without really saying anything.

My style icons are…
I have so many style icons, and it changes with how I’m feeling on the day. Giovanna Battaglia has to be one of them - she’s a stylist and fashion editor for W magazine and also a former model. She takes a risk with her fashion – for example, she’ll style pants under a dress with sneakers and crazy sunglasses! But she always looks like she’s having fun, she’s a professional woman and doesn’t take herself too seriously.

The other one is Audrey Hepburn, her fashion choices are as relevant today as they were back then.

I would describe my personal style as…
My personal style is always evolving. But, you can’t go wrong with tailored separates. If I find a pair of pants or a shirt that I love, I will buy 3-4 pairs of it in different colours simply because I like the style and fit of it. I always go for a button-down shirt and a great pair of jeans.

Wear something you’re comfortable in and something you love. Fashion is there to enhance your natural beauty so you have to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.

Gold Coast style is…
The Gold Coast is really interesting with fashion now. It has evolved quite nicely in the last 10 years or so. In recent times, we’ve really stepped it up with women’s and men’s fashion. I think we hold our own with the Sydney & Melbourne markets. We’ve gone from those really tight dresses to more of an elegant look and taking note of what we’re wearing and luxe fashion brands.

But with the good comes the bad, and I’d have to say I think the biggest fashion faux par is visible underwear. Make sure you choose your underwear for your outfit, the same goes for visible bra lines.

My favourite Pacific Fair stores are…
When it comes to retailers I love at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, Harrolds has big brands that I absolutely adore, and David Jones has so many trend pieces!

My fashion predictions for 2018…
One of my fashion predictions for 2018 is monochromatic dressing head-to-toe in one colour or different shades of the one colour. Whereas a trend coming through in accessories is a round handbag, which we’ve seen from Louis Vuitton. This means your high street stores will be stocking them very shortly, so keep an eye out for that!
