HOTA is taking over Pacific Fair these school holidays with FREE kid’s ArtLabs and an art exhibition! 
 
Bring out your inner creative spirit and discover the next generation of local artists, all in celebration of the new HOTA Gallery opening exhibition, SOLID GOLD: Artists from Paradise; a showcase of the diversity and talent on offer within the Gold Coast.
 
Your little ones can practice their inner Picasso at our free pop-up art workshops, designed by local artists to inspire mini artist’s in the making. Plus, the whole family can discover a range of giant art sculptures in The Resort area afterwards!

About the workshops:
Creative ArtLab
Local artist Libbi Reed will inspire kids to think outside the box with their art in creating their own ‘Chatterbox’ in a mini creative self-expression workshop. *Libbi will be hosting workshops on Saturdays, Sunday & Tuesday.
 
Clay ArtLab
Local artist Michellele Plastrier will let your imagination go golden in a colourful clay workshop to create iconic Gold Coast shapes. *Michelle will be hosting workshops on Saturdays, Sunday & Tuesday.
 
Sand ArtLab
Create your own sand art using different coloured sand to make your own masterpiece.
 

MEET THE LOCAL ARTISTS BEHIND THE ARTLAB

MICHELLE LE PLASTRIER
Michelle is an artist working on the Gold Coast with a focus on ceramics and creating work that blends sculptural and functional. Referencing themes of childhood, nostalgia with a strong use of colour she aims to transport you to simpler times and a joyous environment. LIBBI REED
Libbi is a local Gold Coast creative practitioner and researcher that is all about creative self-expression. Her experience lies in teaching Visual Communication Design and she is currently in the final stages of completing a Doctor of Visuals Arts. The focus she has taken from her studies surrounds Visual Sense-Making with sketch notes with workshops to build self-confidence in areas of handwriting, calligraphy, lettering and visually expressing yourself. GUY COOPER – MIGALOO & GUARDIANS OF THE GOLD COAST

Guy Cooper is a Gold Coast artist describing himself as an arts environmentalist. He has designed several environmental sculptures and is a strong advocate of environmental and human issues through his art building sculptures for local events such as Swell Sculpture Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Tugun Lights Up and Nerang Botanical Bazar.

Migaloo's Song  
Winner of 2017 Gold Coast Swell Sculpture Festival People’s Choice & Environmental Awareness Award
‘Migaloo's Song’ is a kinetic wind harp, built in a 1:1 ratio of Migaloo the white Australian humpback whale. Whales are described as ‘inveterate composers’, which has inspired Guy and 35 local Gold Coast musicians to write and compose a song utilising the harp entitled ‘Migaloo’s Song’ -available on Spotify.

Our city houses many guardians, the protectors of our people, the unsung heroes of the Gold Coast. From the lifeguards at the beach to the firefighters protecting our homes, the social workers helping those most in need and the police guarding the safety of our community. This sculpture honours the medical staff of Gold Coast Health and the sacrifices they make, expressing my appreciation and respect to the nurses, doctors and hospital staff that save our lives every day, the ‘Guardians of the Gold Coast’.

‘With You’ is a love story. A celebration of Gold Coast life. Embracing togetherness whilst being immersed in abundant natural beauty. Katie and Derek have been living, loving, and creating together for 14 years across the world. 'With You' was their sculptural public debut, and five years later is still talked about as one of the most iconic artworks of the Gold Coast.

Winner of 2020 Gold Coast Swell Sculpture Festival Artist Per Award
District 23 is a trio Gold Coast Sculpture collaboration between artists Courtenay, Connor and Eduardo who have exhibited in the Swell Sculpture Festival for the last 2 years and won the Artist Peer Award in 2020. The 'Umbrella Effect' sculpture takes on a physical interpretation of the term "umbrella effect" commenting on the imbalance on the environment and climate. See this sculpture transform into the night with vibrant LED lighting.
