NAIDOC CEREMONY & PERFORMANCE

Local Aboriginal Dance troupe, Yugambeh Aboriginal Dancers, will be performing a “Welcome to Country” ceremony and dance performance in celebration of NAIDOC week brought to you by our local Jellurgal Aboriginal Culture Centre in Burleigh.
 
“Welcome to Country” ceremony show respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land with a speech made in Aboriginal dialect. Jellurgal’s dance performances including corroborees, Dreamtime stories, didgeridoo music and song are a mesmerising and inspirational showcase of Aboriginal culture and heritage. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia this year between 4 - 11 July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC stands for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’.
