If you are not prepared to risk the different or usual, you’ll have to settle for ordinary – Chameleon Vibe don’t do ordinary.
Run-of-the-mill is not what you’ll find at Chameleon Vibe. “We are decidedly different,” explains Chris Roberts, who emigrated here with her husband Howard from England 10 years ago.
“There are so many chain stores around and we purposely stock clothing and items that are out of the ordinary. I guess you could call us ‘an alternative boutique’.”
Chris finds it hard to describe the style or genre of the store, originally the brainchild of their daughter Kate. “We took inspiration from shops we’d run in Britain, specialising in ‘one off’ pieces and brands that are slightly out there, as well as very fashion forward brands.”
Chameleon Vibe, mirroring the owners themselves, is ideally suited to mother-and-daughter style. “We have clothes for younger people as well as for the older market, and some, suited to both. You can find cutting-edge denim by True Religion, items from Buddhist Punk and new label We Walk or dresses by Bec & Bridge, and then there’s pretty, lacy tops with lovely detailing, imported tops from Asia and Italy and tie-dyed clothes that we source from a brand called Handmade, which are incredibly popular.”
Chameleon Vibe also stocks a distinctive range of handbags from Gracious Me!, Lyla Black, Fashion Concepts, Guanabana, as well as accessories like belts by Helbo and jewellery from Frou Frou.
